Paul WintermuteI can remember being a bit of a speed junky from a very early age.  Even before I got my first bicycle I would bomb down our rather steep driveway on my bigwheel, sometimes spinning a 360 off into the dirt... I think I was six or seven.  After a summer of raking leaves I got my first 20" bike and all hell broke loose.  I would race the neighborhood kids down the longest, steepest hills we could find.  Every so often some kid would end up in the ER but for the most part we survived.  When I got old enough I bought my first newish motorcycle, a 1989 CBR600, and more or less motorcycling became my life.  I road raced all over California for five years with the AFM and finished as high as 5th place in the 750 class.  A few years ago, my credit cards burning, I came full circle and starting racing bicycles.  Downhill mountain bike racing requires a mental and physical toughness that is very similar to racing motorcycles with a bit less risk and cost, perfect for an old fart like me.

I was born in Sacramento, CA, was raised in Pollock Pines, and went to high school in Placerville.  I went to college for four years in Sacramento but didn't find my calling.  Then I went to Phoenix to attend Motorcycle Mechanics Institute.  When I graduated I was top in my class, and was awarded "Top Tech" from the Honda program.  I have worked as a mechanic and service manager at several local dealerships but prefer wrenching at small shops where customers are well taken care of.  I'm happy to call Werkstatt home and hope you make it yours too.
